Overview

A graceful house deserves a graceful dining room. That’s just what you’ll find at Mount Juliet in Co. Kilkenny. The Lady Helen Dining Room is open to residents of the house and visitors. Executive Head Chef Cormac Rowe is young, dynamic and full of beans in the kitchen.  He oversees the first class menu here and all the other dining facilities of this house and estate.The eating experience starts the moment you walk into the grandeur of the dining room.  Named after Lady Helen McCalmont of the McCalmont family, who were the last owners of the house before it’s changeover to hotel and golf estate. Careful restoration has preserved original characteristics of the 1750’s.  Tall Georgian bay windows take in panoramic views of the River Nore and the fields and gardens of the estate. Ornate cornicing and plasterwork of the period decorate ceiling and walls. An Italian marble fireplace takes centre stage.  Candles, crisp linen, shining silver and gleaming glassware set the scene for the theatrical gourmet experience to come. Cormac and his Head Chef Ken Harker know how to put on a show.Take your seat among these opulent surroundings and let the performance begin.  Start with a glass of bubbles.  Browse a menu featuring the best of local and seasonal foods. We can’t tell you what to choose, but we can say it will be wonderful. The best of Irish is in focus – Black Angus beef from Monaghan.  Seasonal game.  Wexford fish and shellfish.  Home grown herbs and salads from the estate gardens.   If you really struggle to pick from the a la carte, let the chef’s eight course Signature Tasting Menu speak for itself.  This highlights the best of the kitchen and the mind blowing culinary skills of the chefs.  It’s great value too.Of course fine food needs fine wine.  The tasting menu has a wine pairing option. Wines are specifically chosen to match each course.  For bottles, half bottles and glasses, peruse the impressive wine list. Something for every taste, from the classic regions of the world.  Follow up dinner with a little something from the digestifs menu.  Fine brandies, old whiskies, liqueurs and cocktails rub shoulders with artisan speciality herb teas from Co.
