02/02/2017 – Tour Ballykelly Farm with Des Jeffares and Neven Maguire

Congratulations to Des Jeffares of Mr Jeffares Blackcurrants on his appearance on Neven’s Irish Food Trails last evening on RTE 1.

Neven Maguire, one of Ireland’s most popular chefs, paid a little visit to Ballykelly Farm to see the blackcurrant production, as part of his show Neven’s Irish Food Trails currently showing on RTE 1. Des did a fine job of talking Neven through the basics of blackcurrant growing and his participation in Bord Bia’s Origin Green programme

Afterwards, Neven was treated to a lovely lunch of slow cooked lamb shanks with blackcurrant sauce, cooked by Des from an old family recipe. We think he’s pretty brave to cook for one of the best chefs in the country. And Neven certainly did look like he was enjoying it! 

Ballykelly Farm has been in the Jeffares family for three generations. Located in the sunny south east in County Wexford, is the only remaining commercial blackcurrant farm in the country. From these beautiful fruits, Des launched his now famous Mr Jeffares Blackcurrant Cordial a couple of years ago. 

This fruit cordial is made with nothing other than pure blackcurrant juice from homegrown fruit, sweetened with a natural plant sweetener. Packed with natural goodness and lots of important nutrients. Blackcurrants are very high in Vitamin C. Mr Jeffares Blackcurrant Cordial makes the perfect hot punch for this time of year, when you want to fight off coughs and colds.
