COOK OFF CHALLENGE

What happened when the Doyenne of Irish Food took on the Chairman of the World Sheep Shearing Council in a kitchen cook off, this afternoon in the Good Food Ireland Kitchen Theatre at the Golden Shears World Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships 2014? Darina Allen of Ballymaloe Cookery School, and Greg Kerrick, went head to head in a cookery contest – armed with pots, pans and a set of mystery ingredients. Wexford’s Slaney Valley lamb was the star of both dishes. Three audience members won the chance to become professional food judges for the event. Greg’s creation pipped Darina’s by a nose – based on the judges fair and square decision in passing the taste test! Lots of humour and banter between the two cooks kept the enthusiastic audience entertained in what was a brilliant event. Well done to Greg for his success in the kitchen, and a big thank you to Darina for her wonderful sportsmanship.
