HENS FOR THE HENS…

If you are going to plan a wedding,  you will need some stamina.  Arranging of the biggest day of your life is akin to planning a precision military attack. There are troops to put in place here. Strategic manoeuvres to be made. You’re a General on a mission. You need to get your act together. And fast.  Think of your family as your front line. Your male/female friends as your allies.  Your bride or groom to be as your Commanding Officer in charge. Team effort required. Bonding vital! Here’s a field exercise for you. Down in Mitchelstown, north Cork, a day on the farm serves many a purpose for a pre-wedding gathering. Fresh air – lots of it. Good local and ethically produced food – that too. A few everyday essential farming tasks to learn from and have fun with. Ballinwillin House and Organic Farm is set in the countryside of north Cork, This period farmhouse with its own luxury accommodation and dedicated wine cellar,  is surrounded by green fields. Outside, the majestic Ballinwillin Herd of Hungarian Red deer graze contendly, the free range pig herd snuffles happily, the beef herd munches heartily on fresh green grass. Hen and stag parties and pre-wedding gatherings will find a completely different way to celebrate together.  Hens for the hens, stags for the Stags, deer for your dear…and so on! Ballinwillin’s owner Pat Mulcahy will have you milking a cow (by hand!), feeding the deer and pigs, looking for hens eggs, splitting logs.  His wife Miriam can be called upon for a cookery demonstration in the big farmhouse kitchen.  Or a tasting of the farm’s own artisan range of charcuterie, which includes smoked venison and venison salamis, wild boar sausages and salamis and other delicious goodies, made from home reared meats.  Ballinwillin House also caters wedding feasts for up to 100 guests. A delightful destination for a completely different wedding celebration. Contact the Mulcahy’s here,  for tailor made farm day bookings and wedding facilities.
