OverviewThe Village Butchers Shop is located in the heart of Ranelagh on the south side of the Dublin city centre. Although it is part of Dublin City it is very much a neighbourhood business. This family business is run by Butcher’s Michael Madden, Sarah Kelly and their daughter Jessica who is training in the business as a Butcher apprentice.

In terms of the offering and the quality, The Village Butcher is a small shop packing a big punch. This very eye-catching shop stands out from the crowd with its vibrant blue branding and its location across from the Triangle in Ranelagh in the shadow of the Luas stop. It can’t be missed!
The shop oozes quality food, fresh food and welcoming, professional and knowledgeable service. Behind the counter, you’ll be greeted with a smile by Michael and Sarah. You’ll also find daughter Jessica who is learning the tricks of the trade and soaking up all the invaluable knowledge from her mother Sarah. The future of this family business sure looks bright.
Customer service is truly at the heart of the business as customers are greeted by name, along with their valued suppliers. This really puts an emphasis on the ‘Village’ aspect of this butcher shop, it’s very much rooted in the local community.
Michael and Sarah will happily prepare your meat to your specifications and please don’t hesitate to get their advice on how to best cook and prepare. Their knowledge is astounding and it’s well worth the time to pick their brains.
The shop interior is modern and contemporary in style. Laid out in pristine fashion is the selection of prime and high-quality meats expertly prepared. You’ll get to witness the fascinating dry ageing process of their beef as in the shop they’ve placed their dry ageing chamber. A must-see for meat enthusiasts!
The shelves at The Village Butcher are also laden with a number of sauces and seasonings that can perfectly complement the meat and poultry offering. Many of these are sourced from local suppliers and Irish artisan producers. One such range you’ll find is from fellow Good Food Ireland® member Achill Island Sea Salt.
The Village Butcher is a traditional butcher shop which supplies a high-quality range of produce. All poultry is Irish.
They specialise in featuring rare cuts of meat which is supported by the multicultural community that live and work in the catchment area in Ranelagh. They also specialise in Dry Aged Beef.
Sourced from small farms & abattoirs, the Angus beef is hand-selected from Clem Tully’s Farm in Longford and Derek Walsh in Carrick-on-Suir. The team works closely with their suppliers and have a close and respectful working relationship.
The beef is dry-aged for a minimum of 30 days and up to 50 days in the purpose-built dry age fridge with Himalayan Pink Salt blocks. The Village Butcher sells select breeds such as Angus, Hereford & Belted Galloway, the range of beef also includes Irish Wagyu.
The Village Butcher have a wide range of products available in a versatile range of cuts. The team at the Village Butcher work very closely with their suppliers and handpick the selection of meats and poultry in order to ensure the best quality for their customers.
Lamb is sourced from the Kildare and Wicklow areas. Farmed using traditional methods, the lamb is fed with grass and grain.
The range of bacon is also very popular at The Village Butcher. Bacon is supplied by a longstanding and reputable farm in Thurles. The pigs are reared ethically and roam freely in a natural setting. This responsible farming leads to a higher quality taste of the bacon produced.
The Village Butcher also source their pork, poultry and beef from highly reputable farms across the country. All of these have high quality, fantastic taste and texture in common.
The Village Butcher range is available to buy direct from the Butcher shop, simply call into the shop or order online for home delivery (within a select radius) or click and collect.
Sustainability plays a vital part in the day to day operations at The Village Butcher. For example, energy usage is kept to a minimum as all refrigerators have been updated with low energy motors.
Moreover, to reduce the amount of packaging used in the business, all meat is now wrapped in paper. A nice touch that customers very much appreciate.
The Village Butcher throughout their sustainability practices operates under an objective of ‘zero waste’.
