Comber Earlies Food Festival - Supporting local producers

The success of the Comber Earlies Food Festival brought together passionate producers, talented chefs, and food lovers to celebrate the very best of local produce that exists within the TASTE AND Network.

This year’s festival showcased not only the iconic PGI Comber Earlies potato, but also the incredible network of artisan producers, makers, and chefs who continue to shape the vibrant food culture of the area. From live cookery demonstrations to immersive tasting experiences, the event highlighted the importance of supporting local, seasonal food and the people behind it.

At the heart of the Comber Earlies Food Festival is a commitment to championing local producers. From dairy and bakery to drinks and preserves, every ingredient used throughout the demonstrations told a story of place, passion, and provenance.

Events like this are vital in strengthening connections between producers and consumers, encouraging people to discover, support, and celebrate the exceptional food being created locally.

A Showcase of Local Talent

The live cookery theatre was curated and hosted by BBC Food writer and Comber Earlies Ambassador, Lotte Duncan.

She expertly brought each dish to life by demonstrating the recipes while engaging in insightful conversations with the producers which helped connect the audience with the stories behind the ingredients, adding depth and authenticity to every demonstratio.

Savoury Cheesy Pudding

A comforting, flavour-packed dish – a cross between a cheese soufflé and bread pudding.

Led by Laura Bradley of Indie Füde, and supported by guest appearances from Krumb Bakery, this dish celebrated the exceptional quality of local ingredients. Featuring Knockanore Red Cheddar, Coolattin Vintage Cheddar and Indie Füde’s Beer Mustard and Sticky Onion Marmalade, it was a true showcase of artisan craftsmanship and rich, local flavours.

The use of Krumb Batch White Bread highlighted the importance of traditional baking methods, while the combination of cheeses and condiments demonstrated how local produce can elevate classic dishes into something truly memorable.

Raspberry & Rose Fool

A light, floral summer dessert that captured the vibrancy of the season.

Presented in collaboration with Wayne Adair of Papas Mineral Company, this dessert incorporates the delicate sweetness of Irish Sisters Raspberry & Rose Cordial, paired with fresh raspberries and softly whipped cream. Fjord Bakery and Glastry Farm Ice Cream added further layers of indulgence, with handcrafted biscuits and locally made ice cream.

Alongside the dessert, visitors were treated to a playful twist on classic refreshments – Ice Cream Sodas, A Festival Favourite

A fun and visually striking highlight, the Lavender and Raspberry & Rose Ice Cream Sodas delighted festival-goers of all ages. Featuring Longbridge Drinks Company sodas, Glastry Farm Ice Cream, and The Mallow Makers marshmallows, these drinks perfectly capture the creativity and innovation of our local food scene.

Lemon Lime and Rum Cheesecake with Mallow Fluff

A zesty no-bake cheesecake infused with Copeland Rum and topped with caramelised Mallow Fluff.

A fresh twist on a classic no-bake cheesecake, this indulgent dessert combines the citrus flavours of lemon and lime with a splash of Copeland Rum for a sophisticated finish. Set on a buttery biscuit base and finished with a layer of caramelised Mallow Fluff from The Mallow Makers, every bite is a perfect balance of tangy, creamy, and toasted sweetness.

Memory Lane

I well remember Peter as a very young man, he’s my age and even then he had a charm and grace to behold. I live in Australia now and this article has flooded back memories of Cavistons and Peter. Glad to learn that Peter had been so successful. Cavistons was wonderful then as now. A joy to read this article.

Amazing food, service, ambiance & live classical guitar player!

One of the best food experiences we’ve had since returning to Ireland. We really miss the quality of our old neighbourhood in D.C. but this place had us pining for more. Lovely staff & really tasty dishes. Live guitarist was a real bonus.

Daithi O'Faolain

Fantastic Restaurant

I love sitting for lunch with friends on the weekdays. I usually opt for the curry dish on the menu! I also love choosing from their various salads. The produce is fresh and often comes from Anthony’s own patches!

Jillian Ferguson

Fabulous food and service

Returned back to the church last night after a year. Had a fabulous meal, looking forward to going back tonight and lucky to get a spot for tonight. The monkfish was delicious. The staff and the service is just perfect. Highly recommend it.

Ann Marie

Fun day out with friends for an art experience.

The art class was simply wonderful. Maureen explained so much first about her art including how she finds and uses sea glass. Then told us what colours to choose and how to apply them. We all left with beautiful pictures. All successfully completed their picture and all were unique. After a delicious afternoon tea she did not hurry us out. But spent time with us telling us about her alpacas. I will never forget the experience and highly recommend it. You will forget about everything else going on in your life. It was a total break for a day and we all left very happy.
