Muckross Park Hotel & Spa has exceptional food offerings with several dining options available for you to savour. The award-winning Yew Tree Restaurant at Muckross Park Hotel is the hotel’s main fine dining restaurant.
The team at The Yew Tree pride themselves on showcasing the excellent produce from local farmers, fishermen and food producers. The strong connection between the hotel and its suppliers is a key to the success of this food offering. Menus are generally altered each season to reflect the availability of produce.
The Monk’s Lounge is the more casual dining space and the menu here is all about comfort food with an elegant flair.
Muckross Park Hotel & Spa has an exciting gastro pub dining option in the form of Major Colgan’s, where you can soak up the atmosphere of an authentic Irish pub experience.
Diners are treated to marvellous menus highlighting the best produce from the Wild Atlantic Way with a terrific selection of wines to go with each dish.
Expect to see Ring of Kerry venison and Kerry beef on the menu alongside a seasonal Atlantic seafood selection, country-style terrines and a wild game bird special. Diners certainly are spoiled for choice.
Each dish is seasoned to perfection and artfully constructed and accompanied by carefully selected components to enhance and compliment the flavours of the main ingredient. Sweet treats and an artisan cheese board for dessert round off a memorable meal. Chocolate lovers, your eyes and taste buds will light up with the signature chocolate tart and those who dig dairy will swoon over the artisan cheese board severed with grapes, biscuits, house preserves and, if we may be so bold to suggest, an old Tawny Port to finish.
Each dish on the menu has a carefully suggested wine pairing which provides you with a well-rounded dining experience that feels incredibly exclusive.
If you are looking for a gourmet sandwich at lunch, a delectable tea in the afternoon or fancy cocktails in the evening, the light and bright Monk’s Lounge ticks all the boxes. A series of comfortable couches surrounding a large open fireplace makes for an elegant but very relaxing space where you could easily spend all day unwinding and enjoying great food and creative drinks. On sunny days you can retire to the terrace and bask in the warm rays and listen to the Blue Pool River as it runs past with the magnificent national park as your backdrop. There really is no place like it.
The menu at Monk’s Lounge is all about comfort food with an elegant flair. Enjoy favourites such as traditional fish and chips or a juicy beef burger served with a sweet onion relish and a special burger sauce. Add some spice with a delicious beef stir-fry or warm up after a day of discovering the national park with a hearty seafood chowder. A range of desserts are on hand to finish off the meal or to enjoy on their own with a cup of tea or coffee. For something stronger, the impressive bar collection has a wide range of craft beers, gin and other spirits, with Irish distillers playing centre stage.
Major Colgans is a traditional Irish pub with a wonderfully cosy vibe thanks to the wooden floors, old stone walls, beamed ceilings and big open fireplaces. Sink to a sofa or pull up a stool at the bar and order from the wide selection of national and international stouts, beers, spirits and wines. When you get hungry you can order from the bar menu which features only the best locally sourced produce. Dig into a selection of burgers, pasta and curry dishes or try the famous Irish black pudding or a selection of baked flatbreads as a light bite. Desserts feature an intriguing blackberry indulgence and strawberry pavlova along with ice creams and freshly made scones.
To truly get that genuine Irish pub experience make sure you stick around for the live Irish music and dancing on selected dates during the week. You’ll quickly find out the meaning of the Irish saying, ‘the craic is mighty’.
