Dining

The Cook & Gardener restaurant is the main dining area and the name of the restaurant reflects the trend for growing your own ingredients – Rathmullan House has its own traditional walled garden growing a variety of soft fruits, herbs and vegetables, which appear on the menu. You can also dine on fine, locally sourced produce, including Donegal landed seafood.

For a more informal option, The Pavilion offers wood-fired pizzas and locally brewed beers.

Batt’s Bar is the place to head for a relaxing drink and some light bites as well as tea, coffee and scrumptious cake.

Needless to say, great food lies at the heart of this great country house. The Cook and Gardener Restaurant specialises in modern Irish country house dining for its overnight guests and the public.

Situated in a light and elegant conservatory style space, this dining room reflects the trend for growing your own ingredients to supply the menu. Rathmullan has its own walled garden with a prolific growth of seasonal fruits, herbs and vegetables throughout the year.

The menu is Donegal on a plate and features delectables like Donegal scallops, Mulroy Bay mussels and Lisdergan lamb. The food is accomplished and attractive and food provenance is excellent. So too is the wine list which has been well-considered and features quality wine and a great selection of organic and biodynamic bottles.

In the morning, a generous breakfast awaits. Fill up on specialities like house Guinness and wheaten breads, Donegal baked ham served with fruit compote on Carrageen Moss (a local mild tasting seaweed) and Irish apple juice. The cooked Irish breakfast option is a cornucopia of local produce but lighter options are available including stone ground porridge with honey or prunes, smoked fish, perfect pancakes and light and fluffy freshly-baked scones with homemade preserves, jams and marmalade.
