Overview
The menus at Spice Indian Restaurant are designed with an emphasis on refined yet creative Indian cuisine, incorporating both traditional classic Indian favorites and original signature dishes that blend eastern flavours with a western twist.Dining
Located on Monck Street in Wexford Town, Spice Indian Restaurant is beautifully decorated in a style that lends itself to being both contemporary and warm, with rich, vivid colours inspired by the Indian colonial era.
Dishes are prepared with the strongly-held belief that Indian cuisine is not about heat but more about a marriage of fine aromatic fresh herbs and spices.
Spice Indian Restaurant in Wexford Town was born in 2009. Previously run by Emma and Richard Lett, who cultivated a reputation for excellent food and hospitality, in 2023 the restaurant was placed in the expert hands of Jose Mathew and John Smilton. Both Jose and John have worked in the business with the previous owners and they are wholly committed to continuing the exceptional offering that Spice is well known for.
The conception came as a happy coincidence: after appointing a chef from southern India to work in the original daytime bistro the menus began to incorporate traditional dishes from his home. Very soon, those specials became the most popular on the menu and when the opportunity came to relocate to the premises on Monck Street, it was an obvious decision to go Indian completely.
Spice Indian Restaurant is an intimate space with contemporary style. Its spice colours and photographs add atmosphere and warm ambience. This is a smart restaurant with gracious good looks. John runs front of house with generous Irish hospitality and the kitchen is run meticulously. Here is a true marriage of Irish and Indian cultures.
Jose is the Head Chef and is reponsible for giving dining an authentic taste of southern Indian cuisine. Everything is made from scratch and dishes are cooked to order. Spices are purchased whole and ground as needed. Pastes are made fresh daily. Meats are gently simmered in spices to tenderise and infuse flavour. All meats come from a local butcher in town. Fish is as fresh as can be from a Wexford fishmonger and added at the last minute to the pan so it retains texture and freshness.
Southern Indian dishes are a speciality, though the menu has some familiar curry choices too. Colourful spices, fragrant fresh herbs, lime, lemon, ginger, chilli and intensely-flavoured fresh curry pastes are all ready and waiting to conjure magic. Dough for naan bread is prepared just before service, worked gently by hand to form the familiar flat shape before being stuck to the side of the Tandoori oven. Minutes later, out it comes, ready to be brushed with butter and sprinkled with fresh herbs. Is there any better? Follow your main with a well-constructed house dessert all of which have a twist of the exotic about them.
A terrific wine list complements the food and there is a selection of other refreshing beverages too.
If you can’t eat in, grab a takeaway. Phone beforehand, and it will be ready when you want it. Freshly cooked to order like all the dishes served in the restaurant.
Spice Indian Restaurant is a super spot for dinner. Elegant and friendly and right for any occasion from an intimate date to group gathering.
