The Smugglers Inn kitchen is a marvel for cooking enthusiasts with homemade stocks and sauces simmering on stoves, slow-cooked stew bubbling in the oven, freshly baked breads cooling on a wire racks and all manner of tempting dishes on the go. The emphasis here is on local, fresh, seasonal produce with much of it organic and almost everything made from scratch.
There are two terrific places to eat, The Smugglers Inn gourmet restaurant and the more casual Payne Stewart Bar. Both offer diners a chance to try modern Irish food made with the finest local ingredients.
The conservatory-style restaurant in the Smugglers Inn is one of the best places to eat when in this part of Kerry. Menus are based on local and seasonal produce with a particular affinity for fresh fish and shellfish from the nearby waters. The vegetables come from the market garden across the road and depending on the season you’ll find the freshest radishes, beetroots, lettuces, carrots, celery, peas and beans staring in the dishes.
Light streams into the elegant dining space through the big windows which also give you dazzling views of beautiful Ballinskellig Bay as you eat. The surroundings, the food, everything is just so picture perfect.
In the morning, the Smugglers Inn breakfast will set you up for the day, especially if you opt for the full Irish with Sneem black pudding, West Cork white pudding, sausages and bacon from local suppliers and free range eggs. For those looking for a lighter way to wake up there is plenty of fresh fruit, cereal, creamy porridge and freshly baked in-house breads and pastries.
Rooms & Facilities
Waterville in Kerry is a wild and beautiful place to spend a night or two. All the bedrooms in Smugglers Inn are en suite and are comfortable and attractively furnished. There are rooms to suit all type of holidaymakers including doubles, twins, kings and family accommodation. Those at the front of the house have superb views of the sea.
The Smugglers Inn is situated beside a 2km sandy beach that just begs to be walked and explored and is also near to the Waterville Links should you feel inclined to play a round of golf.
When it comes to idyllic locations for your big day, you can get more picturesque than the Smugglers Inn. The restaurant can cater for up to 120 guests but if you need more space for more guests, there is a beautiful wedding marquee which adjoins to the restaurant so that 250 guests can enjoy a wedding to remember.
The Smugglers Inn is the ideal location to enjoy a seaside getaway. The 15 recently renovated bedrooms are stylishly designed for maximum comfort. Rooms are spacious and fitted with every amenity you could need, from plush bedding and fluffy towels, you’ll feel relaxed in no time.
Some rooms also have wonderful coastal views looking out onto the Kerry coastline, while remaining rooms look out onto the lovely golf links that surround the Smugglers Inn.
The Smugglers Inn Restaurant serves locally sourced, seasonal cuisine and the finest of sustainable seafood. Only the best local suppliers are used and produce is organic too where possible.
