Overview
This stylish Dublin city centre restaurant is located on Merrion Row, within equal distance from The Shelbourne Hotel on one side and The Merrion Hotel on the other. It’s located close to the French Huguenot Cemetery on Merrion Row which inspired the name of the business. Merrion Row has a Paris boulevard atmosphere, the hospitality businesses have established an outdoor on-street dining space and Hugo’s has led this trend, offering diners a varied dining experience. When you arrive at Hugo’s, the first impression is a deep sense of warmth and stylish deluxe décor. The luxurious soft furnishings, wall coverings and the hand-picked recycled antique furnishings sourced by Gina on her travels give a private club atmosphere to the restaurant. Visitors are welcomed at the entrance reception.
The restaurant is set out on two levels. The front of the restaurant looks out onto Merrion Row and on either side of the front entrance, there is a pair of very cute window tables, on sunny days the windows are fully open giving an outdoor feel to the space.
The back wall of the restaurant dining area is framed by an extensive display of fine wines. Diners can expect a large selection of wines by the glass, giving you the choice of tasting something special and different to pair with Hugo’s amazing food.
Hugo’s restaurant extends downstairs, this area can be booked in advance for private family and corporate gatherings.
Hugo’s is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Saturday and from 3pm on Sundays. When you arrive there’s an air of friendliness and professionalism on show. This extends to the young team of chefs in Hugo’s kitchen led by executive Chef Michael Morrisroe.
The menu is full of innovation and showcases the very best of Irish ingredients. The day we visited, chef prepared a bite size Amuse Bouche of crispy slow cooked Ham Hock with a fried Quails Egg on top. For the main course, chef served a tasting of Slow Cooked Short Rib of Hereford Beef. This succulent and tasty dish was served with new season Bok Choy and Hasselback potatoes. For dessert, the pastry chef prepared an Irish Strawberry mille-feuille layered with house baked wafer shortbread and a Wild Elderflower Mascarpone cream. Such delicious seasonal flavours!
Hugo’s is a very convenient location for visitors to Dublin City Centre. Trinity College, Government Buildings, The National Museum of Ireland, The National Concert Hall, Grafton Street and Stephen’s Green are all within a 10-minute walking distance.
The service at Hugo’s is knowledgeable and very professional and the attention to detail confirms that visitors are in skilled hands. They just get it right at Hugo’s, the ethos is to assure customers of the right balance. If you want discreet privacy for a lunch or dinner meeting this can be achieved or if you welcome the chat or are looking for local information or assistance with your visit to Dublin you won’t be disappointed.
