Overview

Bill Kelly is well known in the hospitality industry. His Kelly’s Resort Hotel and Spa on the beach in Rosslare has been in his family for generations. This consummate professional has created a magnificent place to stay, eat, and see one of the biggest original art collections in the country. Kelly’s Cafe is another one of his ventures and it carries the same local and Irish sourcing policy as the hotel.

Dining

Kelly’s Café offers a high-quality casual food offering inside the Meadows & Byrne Store at Drinagh, Co. Wexford. The cafe serves an array of delicious meals, oven-baked pizzas and tasty salads using the finest local produce at affordable prices.

The design of Kelly’s Café features French influences that perfectly complement the delicious food on offer. The café occupies a bright space and lots of glazing lets in natural light. A blackboard menu gives value-for-money choices for breakfast options, lunchtime sandwiches, salads, soup of the day, hot dishes, and a choice of a couple of quiches – the Quiche Lorraine is a French classic made perfectly. Also worth trying are the pizzas, which are made with a secret recipe dough and cooked to order in the stone oven behind the service counter. The salad bar here is a sight to behold and changes daily. Fresh, vibrant flavours and appetising creations abound. There’s always a tempting selection of homemade pastries too – from morning scones to afternoon tea favourites. Little ones are well looked after too and have their own special menu.

Simply join the queue to browse the counter to see what you fancy. One of the Kelly’s team will be happy to serve you and recommend some options if you’re just overwhelmed by all the choice!

When it comes to wine, you are in for a treat. The Kelly family has vineyards in France and these wines feature on the menu. Choose from two reds and whites by the glass or buy a bottle to have with lunch or to take home. Other drinks include Ballycross apple juices, Irish lemonades, and Irish sparkling water. Fresh coffee is made expertly from the stunning barista coffee maker – a beautiful piece of machinery.

Beside the counter, there are wall shelves carrying a small selection of cupboard necessities and treats including French oils, Irish Atlantic sea salt, pastas, sauces, coffees, teas and chocolate.

Kelly’s Café is a super addition to this busy shopping location. It’s a destination dining venue after a spot of retail therapy.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of all of the Kelly family businesses.

“For years at Kelly’s, we have been buying as much local produce as possible,” says Bill Kelly. “We butcher all our own meats, prep all our
own vegetables and make all our own breads and desserts.”

“As we feel strongly about locally-sourced produce, we are now committing to growing our very own ingredients. This allows us to create a food path, which is truly in tune with the season and a million miles away from global methods of industrial food production.” The vegetable garden project is part of Mr Kelly’s overall environmental programme, which promotes local growing as less polluting, low energy, and low carbon.
