Dining

The main dining space at Mountain View Kilkenny is the Greenhouse Bar & Restaurant which is headed up by talented Chef Rory Nolan, who has worked previously in Ireland’s top restaurants and with famous Chefs such as Ross Lewis. Here Rory has created a refreshing food offering that places quality local ingredients at the heart of the offering. A straightforward menu is presented wonderfully with plenty of choice for diners. Furthermore, Rory proudly showcases a collection of local producers and suppliers on his menu which includes a local beef farmer and an organic vegetable producer, and so on.

Interestingly, the Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar is situated within what was previously the O’Neill family homestead. The entire 120-acre property is dotted with family anecdotes, it’s great to visit a place with such a colourful history.

The Greenhouse itself, like its name, is modern with a twist of rustic charm. This open-plan space is surrounded by windows that take in the views of the surrounding countryside not to mention the cutest Mountain View residents, the herd of Alpacas.

The Greenhouse Restaurant is the main dining space at Mountain View Kilkenny. We had the pleasure of dining here on a sunny Sunday afternoon. From the moment we drove up the tree-lined avenue we were taken in by this shining gem in the Kilkenny countryside.

Inside the restaurant, you’ll find a contemporary and very chic space with golden candelabras at each table which are set in gleaming marble. Splashes of vibrant colour and patterned wallpaper and fabrics add to this contemporary feel. Tables look out on the rolling countryside taking advantage of the scenic views in front of you. The views are very much part of the dining experience at Mountain View Kilkenny.

We picked a great day to visit, The Greenhouse Restaurant has become famous for its Sunday Lunch offering and the place was alive with diners visiting for a leisurely afternoon spent enjoying some delicious food.

As a Sunday Lunch tradition, you’ll find a selection of roast dishes on the menu including locally sourced Irish Beef, a favourite ingredient featured prominently on the menus in various formats from day to day.

We tried a delicious Slow Cooked Rib of Beef served with creamed Mash, Carrot and Turnip and Wilted Greens. As far as Sunday Lunch goes, it would be hard to beat the offering at the Greenhouse Restaurant, the beef slow cooked to perfection, fell away with the touch of the fork and was melt in your mouth. While the veggies were the perfect compliment. On the day diners also had options which included a Roulade of Pork Belly and also a Roasted Hake for fish and seafood lovers. Vegetarians were also accommodated with a tasty Pan Fried Halloumi Cous-Cous. The meal itself was no ordinary Sunday roast, the presentation and robust flavours gave this food tradition, that added professional touch.

For something lighter, there’s also a selection of small plates which we sampled. We spread a Prawn and Crab Mayonaise onto toasted sourdough and it was so tasty. That crunch of the sourdough with the spread was delicious!

To round off our Sunday Lunch fayre, we sampled a Basil and Buttermilk Pannacotta served with fresh summer berries. This refreshing and light dessert was the perfect finale for a great afternoon dining experience. Other sweet treat options included a rich chocolate brownie along with a Creme Brulee served with fresh homemade shortbread.
