The Oliver Restaurant is a stylish gastro restaurant located in the centre of Newry on Mill Street. The restaurant is a 2-story premises with a commanding view overlooking the Newry River and Canal. The Oliver Restaurant is a go-to gastropub destination with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Colleen Lennon has used her leadership skills to implement a successful relaunch of this destination. In the kitchen Executive Head Chef Colleen leads a small kitchen team, linking up with her academic connections. Colleen always has a position on the kitchen team for a young chef apprentice.
Front of House at The Oliver is a very positive customer experience with good attention to detail including an excellent cocktail service to kick off your dining experience.
Visitors can expect a gastro menu including all the favourites and a special menu with a focus on seasonal dishes and seafood options with fresh fish landed at Kilkeel, Ardglass and the recently refurbished harbour of Portavogie in Co Down.
This has been a successful strategy for Colleen who identified fresh fish dishes as a gap in the local market offering. The day we visited, Colleen prepared a perfectly cooked fresh catch of the day plated on a pea mash with tender stem broccoli and sweet potato fondant.
The menu also features a variety of tasty burgers which range from a Korean Fried Chicken Burger to a traditional beef burger with all the yummy trimmings. There’s plenty of choice to sink your teeth into.

The Oliver bar team is bang on trend with a selection of house cocktails to help celebrate a special occasion or to kick-off dinner in style. The wine list offers a good value choice of wines to complement dinner including a selection of wines by the glass.
This trendy and relaxed dining space easily invites you to take a seat and enjoy a fabulous meal in a lively and fun atmosphere.
Sustainability
The menu at The Oliver prominently features ingredients sourced from local fishermen and other on-land suppliers. This is all in support of the local economy.
They work closely with the local community in supporting community and local activities. Colleen Lennon uses her college teaching connections and always has a job apprenticeship position, in the kitchen. From time to time The Oliver offers job placement opportunities to school and college students when the need arises.
