“Every day when I come to work, I give it 110 percent.” So says Geraldine Kingston, owner-proprietor and cook at this lovely little café, restaurant, and wine bar in Clonakilty. Her dedication to serving the best to the residents and visitors of this coastal West Cork town is second to none.
Cooking is in Geraldine’s blood and she knows local, fresh, and seasonal makes a good menu. She very rarely takes time off, so you will nearly always find her in the kitchen knocking up a superb fish pie made from freshest fish caught in the bay nearby, topped with fluffy mashed potatoes from the neighbouring townland of Barryroe, or putting together a delicious stew with meat from the butcher down the street. An array of local growers, cheese makers, and fish smokers are flagged proudly on the menu and daily specials board. Impressive. You may even spot one of West Cork’s local producers having lunch here – a great endorsement of good Irish food.
Afternoon tea is served on bone china and highlights all the home baking – we counted at least a dozen different pies, tarts, cakes, and buns. A mouthwatering array. You can enjoy a selection of drinks including Maher’s coffee, Barry’s Tea, and herbal teas, as well as wines by the glass, carafe, or bottle.
Gearoidin’s is a terrific cafe serving delicious food made with the best local produce, and plenty of heart.
