Queen Elizabeth II is very familiar with the Irish food scene. Her last state visit to Ireland took her to the English Market in Cork, where she met various stallholders and producers – including Good Food Ireland Approved Providers Tom Durcan, On the Pig’s Back and O’Connell’s fish stall. So she might be very pleased indeed to hear that as current Patron of the Royal Highland Show – taking place in Edinburgh, Scotland on  20th – 23rd June, Good Food Ireland will be in attendance. British Royalty have been linked to the show since 1859, when the then Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII, visited as a young student at Edinburgh University. In 1872, Queen Victoria expressed interest in becoming an ordinary member. The Duke of York, future King George V, visited the show in his capacity as President in 1894. The title of  ‘Royal’ was bestowed to the show in 1948,  by Queen Elizabeth’s father, King George VI.  Since it was first established in 1822, The Royal Highland Show  has grown in stature and diversity. Adding to the original celebration of farming and agriculture is a full blown family event, with many activities to be enjoyed this year. As the show website states – it’s not just about cows and combine harvesters! Music, song and dance, shopping and fashion, children’s events and activities are all in the mix, – with huge focus on food too. Which is where we come in! Alongside the artisans of Scotland – Good Food Ireland will proudly display the Irish home produced specialities of which we are rightly proud. Hopefully the Queen might pop along for a taste!
