SUMMER FINALE

The last days of summer are upon us. In two weeks time, school buses will be rolling again. There’s still a little time to enjoy some Irish summer fun though. Word reached our ears yesterday that mackerel have arrived in  West Cork. These healthy oily fish have been seen in coastal harbours. Mackerel lovers and chefs in the region have been successful the last few evenings – just before dusk when the tide is on an incoming turn. Mackerel may well be in a stretch of water near you. This is seasonal fish at its best and free entertainment for a couple of hours. If you have a rod or a line with hooks, get cracking and bag yourself a couple for the grill or barbecue before this summer is out. At Manning’s Emporium in Ballylickey West Cork – August 17th brings a summer barbecue. As a Good Food Ireland Approved Provider, Manning’s is the place to find the best in local and seasonal produce. So worth popping down for a spin Bantry way,  to enjoy what the grill has to offer here. The end of August brings Ireland’s equivalent of Glastonbury. Rockers of all ages will don the wellies and Pound Shop plastic ponchos to enjoy a feast of music,  at Electric Picnic in Stradbally Co. Laois. If you intend to go – do it in style and organise yourself a festival food hamper using the Good Food Ireland online shop as inspiration. Bespoke hampers contain your own choice of ingredients, from artisan speciality meats and smoked fish, cheeses, pickles, chutneys and preserves, salad dressings and soft drinks. Party on down from August 30th –1st September at Electric Picnic , with lots of Good Food Ireland goodies to keep you going Â
