OverviewResting on the banks of the River Ilen (from which they have taken their name), Glenilen Farm produces some of the best natural dairy products in Ireland. In 1997, Valerie Kingston began using this milk to make homemade cheesecakes for the local country market. Her cheesecakes, made with fresh, simple ingredients, quickly gained popularity. From that small beginning, Glenilen Farm began. Now, it’s famous across Ireland for its delicious yoghurts, cream cheese, butter and of course, cheesecakes.
Meet The Maker
Alan Kington’s family has been tending the same small dairy farm for generations. Most days Alan can still be found on the farm, with Valerie in the kitchen experimenting with new mouth-watering recipes. All Glenilen Farm products contain absolutely no artificial additives or preservatives, for a pure authentic farmhouse taste. While the farm’s distribution has increased over the years, it still has that same artisan quality that first put it on the map.
Alan and Valerie Kingston are at the helm of this outfit, which produces fantastic dairy products. The lush hills of Drimoleague, County Cork offer their cows a rich and plentiful supply of nutritious grass that in turn guarantees the rich tasty milk.
They convert all of their milk into delicious products using only the best quality ingredients, reflecting the family’s steadfast belief in the goodness of wholesome, natural food. Production has expanded since it first began in 1997, with a new production house on the farm to keep up with the increasing demand.
Glenilen Farm products include their famous glass yoghurt pots with a layer of fresh fruit compote – plum, apple, rhubarb, or crushed strawberries or raspberries, topped with natural, unsweetened yoghurt. The farm also produces delicious butter, clotted cream, cream cheese, lemon cordial and cheesecakes made with a base of biscuit crumb and Irish creamery butter.
Glenilen Artisan Dairy Products are now available not just in native West Cork, but throughout Cork county, and across the country via select supermarkets and small independent food shops.
Glenilen Farm is a hive of activity and this business welcomes guided tours from groups. Tour the farm and the processes involved in creating this amazing range of dairy products. A Pop Up Cafe can also be visited at certain weeks during the summer.
Guided tours of the farm are available if booked in advance, where you can hear the story around the early start-up days, observe production (mornings are usually best), see how a milking machine works, visit the kitchen garden, farm animals (depending on the time of year) and hens. Visitors are also welcome to pop in and observe production from the viewing area any morning.
Glenilen Farm is dedicated to producing its artisan Irish products in a sustainable way with a focus on social responsibility. Its diverse sustainability projects are innovative and exciting: solar energy production, heat recovery and rainwater harvesting are simple but effective. All of the packaging is recyclable.
Its milk suppliers are all members of the Bord Bia quality scheme, adhering to strict animal welfare standards.
