BREAKING NEWS!
Wanna know a secret? We know where you can get your hands on some Irish tuna and swordfish, caught in Atlantic waters off West Cork. This not so little beauty was landed in Castletownbere, where it was collected by Paul O’Connell of K. O’Connell’s fish stall in Cork’s English Market. The tuna is just as impressive, tucked behind the swordfish on the counter at O’Connell’s. Both these fish are from the healthy oily fish family, which means not only do they taste good, they do you good too! Swordfish and tuna have meaty firm flesh, perfect for grilling or barbecuing. As close as you’ll get to prime steaks from the fish world! Either fish suits flavourings like lime or lemon, chilli, garlic, and fresh herbs like coriander, parsley and chives. Season lasts about three weeks, so pop along and get a steak or two of these mighty fish for supper while you can. Available vacuum packed for freezing if required. A bit more urgency is required if you want to grab the last of the Irish Wild Salmon also now on O’Connell’s stall. Majestic specimens, caught in the River Lee Estuary just outside Cork city. Paul O’Connell tells us, ‘the salmon will all be gone by Thursday of this week.’ Two days left to purchase Cork’s own home caught King of Fish…get your skates on. Paul also tells us he is preparing and smoking some of the wild salmon for the O’Connell’s Smoked Salmon label. Smoked over oak in the traditional way in the smokehouse in Bandon, West Cork. What a treat that will be. Watch this space for more news on that…
