CATCHING UP

As part of the day job at Good Food Ireland, it’s always good to call in on Approved Providers around the country. A recent visit to East Ferry, Co. Cork, found us wending our way to Murph’s Tavern. Murph’s is located right on the water’s edge, and in summer sunshine you could be forgiven for imagining you were on a different continent altogether! White yachts bob in the water down by the pier, their pristine hulls highlighted by glints of sun on gentle waves.  Many’s the sailor to holler ‘Land Ahoy!’ when they spot this cosy pub and moor up to wander in for a bite to eat.  Michael and Laura Cashman are an enthusiastic brother and sister team who love providing the best local foods for their customers. Murph’s welcoming lounge area is the place to have a pint, catch up on the tv news or enjoy a light snack or coffee and dessert.  (We must admit we rather fell for the seasonal fruit crumble with it’s little jug of homemade custard!). A formal restaurant dining area lies to the other side of the front door, plus there’s a beautiful private dining room upstairs. On summer days though,  the extensive beer garden outdoors is the place to watch the sailing world go by.  Watch this space for new happenings in the beer garden, with a superb kids gardening project just being finalised. We’ll bring you more in the next couple of weeks – all part of the Cashman ethos of bringing the message of good local food to every generation.
