Clonakilty in West Cork is a gem of a town. Music, craic, shopping, galleries and a lively farmer’s market all give special appeal to the ambience. A clutch of Good Food Ireland Approved members in Clonakilty provide great food. This is what we enjoyed eating at The Lunchroom at Scannell’s pub on a recent visit. A wholesome mix of penne pasta, with local rocket in a creamy sauce with shreds of Ummera Smokehouse Smoked Chicken, produced by Anthony Creswell in nearby Timoleague. A filling bowlful served by enthusiastic staff who love to support their fellow neighbourhood Good Food Ireland Approved Providers. Meat comes from two butchers in town, including MJ O’Neill. Scannell’s is a place where the real atmosphere of an Irish pub still remains, with the added bonus of superlative pub food made with local produce, served Mondays to Saturdays every week.
