FRIDAY FOOD FACT – HOW TO USE AND STORE FRESH GINGER

Fresh rootginger is a handy thing to have in any kitchen. it's warm spiciness is balanced with a subtle natural sweetness – making it essential in curries, stir fries and other exotic dishes. It even makes a great drink with honey and lemon, to stave off a cold and chesty cough.

Contrary to popular belief, it doesn'tneed to be peeled before use. Grating this fresh spice makes fine pieces, so the peel doesn't interfere with the texture or flavour. It cuts down on the work of peeling this knobbly root. which makes it way more appealing to use. However, in a stir fry you may want fine strips that add flavour and crunch, so you wil need to peel first.

Keep a piece of fresh ginger  in your kitchen and you'll be amazed at the amount of dishes which benefit from the taste. You can keep fresh ginger in the fridge, but it's best to keep it in the fruit bowl where it is visible and you won't forget to use it!
