GALWAY GOODIES

Moycullen is the gateway to magical Connemara. As you travel the coast road out of Galway city going west, beyond the village the magical mountains beckon. This bustling little village en route is more than a ‘just passing through’ village though. There’s a very good Good Food Ireland reason  to hang around a while and enjoy a bit of time out from the drive.White Gables Restaurant is a longstanding Approved Provider in the Good Food Ireland network, located just 8km drive from Galway city. This cosy little restaurant owned by Kevin and Ann Dunne is set in a converted stone cottage dating back to the 1920’s. Pretty as a picture frontage sets the scene. Inside,  elegant surroundings, an intimate dining space and discreet but friendly personal service adds to the package of locally sourced produce on the menu . Expect to find artisan delicacies from Oughterard’s gourmet butcher James McGeough, with smoked fish specialities from the Burren Smokehouse in Co. Clare – both also esteemed GFI establishments. Alongside the a la carte dinner menu, a set three course dinner menu and gratifying Sunday three course lunch mean great value options for dining out. Even better value till the end of May, when White Gables offers dinner for two from the table d’hote menu,  plus a bottle of house red or white wine, for €75.00. Recession busting deal,  we think!  Find the details in our Offers listings.  Next door to the main restaurant, daytime travellers will adore the funky White Gables café and shop. This little paradise has a host of foodie gifts and home made goodies to browse. We adore the retro tea towels which are way too nice to dry dishes with – we think they look great framed and hung on the kitchen wall. You won’t be able to take your eyes off the pastry counter either. Home baked treats to rival any French patisserie. One of these with a coffee, enjoyed outside at the pavement tables,  and you’re on the continent of Ireland in a big way!
