MIDLETON ON THE MENU

Kevin Aherne is one of Ireland’s most innovative young chefs. His Sage Restaurant in the market town of Midleton, East Cork, was established when Kevin was only in his early twenties, just a few short years ago. A brave leap for a young man who found his vocation in life by washing up in restaurants to earn money while travelling! The cooking influences he found on his journey inspired him to take the next step to becoming a chef himself. And what a chef he has become. Already award winning as our Newcomer of the Year for 2012/2013.  In recent weeks Sage Restaurant has undergone a major refurbishment. The addition of a Café/Wine and Beer Hub next door to the original restaurant provides a daytime café and pre or post room for busy restaurant nights. The 12 mile menu that was a weekly feature of the restaurant is now the full ethos in both venues. Which means that everything Kevin cooks with comes from within a 12 mile radius of the restaurant. That’s local. Enjoy a 12 mile café menu daily and 12 mile tapas at night. In the smart restaurant next door, as always, 12 mile menu choices will bewitch and bewilder  – each and every one of them highlighting the produce of the immediate area. Well done to Kevin and the team at Sage, who encapsulate the Good Food Ireland ethos in its purest form.
