Ode to January

We just happened to stumble across a poem for January, written by an unknown author, and we hope the witty rhymer doesn’t mind us quoting the opening lines here as follows:   ‘Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house, nothing would fit me, not even a blouse….We can all relate to it!   If you’ve been checking our healthy eating blogs and tips in January, you might have already noticed a renewed spring in your step. Plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits,  a daily walk in the crisp air and a good night’s sleep,  make a big difference to well being in the winter months. This is the time of year to eat your dinner in the middle of the day.  Eating a big meal before going to bed can contribute to weight gain,  slow down digestion and disturb sleep patterns.   Plan a light supper a few evenings a week in January. Fresh free range eggs, poached soft, served on wilted winter greens like chard or spinach,  makes a gorgeous and comforting combo light enough to eat in the evening,  and not calorie laden either. That’s one to get you going,. The GFI chefs among you will have more ideas no doubt. Do let us know.
