SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOPS

We always love it when we visit a Good Food Ireland Approved Provider and see how proud they are of their local suppliers. At Joan Power’s Lemon Tree Cafe in Dunmore East, the producer blackboard shows how dedicated she is to searching out the best local produce for the menu. It’s a simple non fussy food offering, in a seaside village which has the fishing port of Dunmore East a stone’s throw down the road. Summer eating at Lemon Tree includes fresh panfried or battered fish of the day – Lemon Sole and John Dory when we visited. Also a superb fresh crab mayonnaise open sandwich on the house brown bread. There’s a €7.00 midweek special for lunch also – great value to be had here. Lemon Tree has a pleasant light filled dining room, with walls lined with bottles of wine from the list, candles and a wood burning stove for the chilly days. Outside, garden tables take in the view over the sea. You may spot fishing boats arriving home with the latest catch.  Family friendly and casual day time venue – with a smart evening service on Fridays and Saturdays. The small shop area at the entrance displays home baked bread – a gorgeous Irish seaweed and seed brown bread caught our eye, as well as wines, dried Irish seaweeds, OHCo Organic seasonings and Irish rapeseed oils. Foods to go are displayed in chiller and freezer – quality ready meals which just need to be reheated at home.
