WEATHER FORECAST

We heard lately that the temperature was set to soar over the next couple of weeks. A heatwave was allegedly on its way. Today however, Met Eireann are being a little cautious with the predictions. In today’s radio weather broadcasts, it seems the current layer of cloud is due to high pressure, set to clear tomorrow for a bright day, with temperatures in the late teens and early twenties. The next couple of days should be good, with tomorrow being the best day. However, forecasters are now rather hesitant to say if the good weather will last over the weekend, let alone the next two weeks! Bah Humbug! However,  positive thinking is taking place within the Good Food Ireland team.  We reckon the sun will shine and it’s time to think about packing up a picnic. Even if it doesn’t shine, a weekend picnic is always a good idea. Last year, we experienced a wonderful picnic in the stunning surroundings of the Borlin Valley, which joins West Cork to Kilgarvan in Co. Kerry. What did we eat? A feast of superbly ripened Milleens Cheese from the Beara Peninsula, and some gorgeous crusty bread from Arbutus in Cork City. The view was magnificent and the cheese and bread majestic. What more could you ask  – the sun wasn’t present  – but us and the sheep didn’t mind at all! Look to the Good Food Ireland online shop for ideas on cheeses, cured meats and fish, and all the necessary accompaniments in crackers, oatcakes, salad dressings, pickles, preserves and chutney,  for this season’s best picnics. If you have a Good Food Ireland Food Shop near you – this is also the place to find the pick of Irish picnic produce. Sun or no sun, we intend to pack up our picnic hampers whenever we get the chance this summer!Â
