Overview

Located on the Main Street in the village of Emly, Co Tipperary, Seasons Café & Bakeshop offers visitors a taste of delicious homemade food that is embedded in the local community. Founded by partners, Catherine Beary and Clive Davison, Seasons Café & Bakeshop is located in a lovely local traditional pub that has been re-purposed as a daytime café. It would be hard to miss this charming café as it’s painted in vibrant blue and red and blooming with floral displays outside. Don’t be deterred by the ‘Hanley’ sign outside, this is just one of the many elements left from the days Read More

Partners Catherine and Clive come into their own with their complementary talents. Upon entering Seasons Café, you’ll be greeted by Clive who runs the front of house while Catherine can be found in the kitchen cooking up a storm and overseeing the dishes that go out to customers.

Seasons Café & Bakeshop is open Monday – Saturday and closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The food offering at Seasons Café & Bakeshop is wholesome and comforting, everything you could expect and more from a small local café. The breakfast menu is dotted with favourites such as the Full Irish Breakfast that will set you up for the day while other popular options centre around eggs, porridge even the ever popular smashed avocado served with crispy bacon and poached eggs on sourdough. Fresh pastries are also on offer if you’re looking for a quick sweet fix with your morning coffee.

Lunchtime follows this trend of good wholesome food that is lovingly created by Catherine and her team. Daily specials and the soup of the day are showcased on a chalkboard in the café while the menu also features a selection of smaller and larger dishes to suit all tastes and appetites. During our visit, we had the pleasure of tasting Seasons Café’s Sausage Rolls. We can say that these are no ordinary sausage rolls you’d pick up from a supermarket deli. Catherine handmakes the sausage rolls with her own finely cultivated recipe which includes using sausage meat sourced from a local producer. Golden flaky pastry has just the right amount of crisp while the sausage meat is seasoned to perfection. We’d highly recommend trying this dish, it really is delicious.

Catherine also has a veggie and meat quiche available each day on the menu that is a firm favourite with customers along with their Andrew’s Burger which is made with Irish Beef and served with buttermilk onion rings.

For something lighter, Catherine also serves a lovely seasonal salad that is full of healthy fruit and vegetables and packed with flavour!

If you’re calling in for a quick bite and a coffee you’ll also find a lovely selection of pastries and baked treats available too at the display counter.

When dining here, you can be assured of the quality and care that goes into each and every meal. Catherine home makes much of the food on the menu from scratch and in support of the local community she sources where possible within the locality.

Furthermore, with a visit to Seasons Café, you’ll immediately get the feeling of home away from home. Clive, Catherine and their team will give you that warm welcome and you’ll see the café is also very popular with locals who call in for a cuppa to catch up with friends. More so, since its opening, Seasons Café has become a hub for the local community, often hosting get-togethers for various local groups and committees.

Catherine also in her dedication and commitment to the locality is often on hand to lend her baking and cooking talents to local fundraisers and events. Seasons Café & Bakeshop through their entire offering is very much entrenched in the local community.

Sustainability

Seasons Café & Bakeshop has a robust attitude to recycling and waste management. All waste materials are sorted, with minimal compost waste seen at the end of the day. Glass and cardboard are sorted and recycled locally.

Moreover, to-go coffee cups are made with recycled materials and fully compostable. The coffee they’ve sourced is from  Woodland Coffee, an Irish company who pride themselves on their fair trade coffee and their own initiative to plant a tree for every case of coffee sold to help absorb carbon from the atmosphere.

During the renovation of the cafe space, Catherine and Clive installed low-energy FARHO electrical heaters while also having the original fireplace still providing heating within the cafe. As mentioned earlier, Seasons also have retained many features from the existing building while also upcycling pallets for the woodwork in the cafe and Clive has also made the dining tables by hand.

Hot water supplied to the cafe is set up on demand through small tanks attached to each sink which are powered through electricity negating the need for any oil or gas boiler.
