The Stormont Hotel supports the finest local producers and you’ll see these throughout the dining options from breakfast right through to lunch, dinner and even the snacks at the bar.
Breakfast is a sensational spread consisting of a hot and cold buffet laden with local produce. Fuel up on natural yogurts and house fruit compotes, porridge with Bushmills and honey and all the ingredients for a traditional, hot ‘full Irish’ with potato and soda farls, which are typical of the region.
Dining at The Stormont definitely means a trip to La Scala Bistro – a classy, light-filled space serving lunch and dinner daily. La Scala Bistro is open to residents and the public and menus are an exquisite gourmet tour of the island.
Sunday lunch is a family affair held in the Grand Ballroom. A bountiful buffet gives a real taste of a traditional Sunday lunch with hearty favourites made with the freshest, local, seasonal ingredients including succulent roasts and decadent desserts that will appeal to all taste buds.
For light bites and a few beverages in a casual dining spot, you’ll find The Lounge Bar the ideal place to be.
There is a great buzz in La Scala Bistro which not only comes from the friendly chatter of the guests and staff but also from the chefs which can be seen busy at work in the open kitchen. The space itself is very chic and contemporary with floor to ceiling windows that flood the room with light.
On the lunch and dinner menus are the finest local and seasonal produce. Expect to see Kilkeel scampi, rare breed Irish Dexter beef, Fivemiletown Goats Cheese, vegetables from local growers and baked goods without preservatives or additives, where possible.
Desserts are a mix of firm favourites and classics as well as signature La Scala Bistro creations like the decedent Jam Jar Bushmills Tiramisu – layers of Whiskey soaked sponge and coffee infused mascarpone served with homemade shortbread dipped in dark chocolate. Doesn’t that just sound fantastic?
Make sure you leave room for the Irish Cheese Slate filled with flavoursome Kearney Blue, Smoked Gubbeen and Fivemiletown Goats Cheese and served with Ditty’s Oat Cakes and pear chutney. It’s a delicious dairy discovery of the island.
