Meet The Maker
Kelly’s of Newport Artisan Butchers was founded in 1930 by Dominic Kelly, whose name still stands over the door. His sons Seamus and Seán took over the business in 1974, expanding and extending their father’s work. Seán is now the leading butcher, with his sons Kenneth and Cormac working alongside him in this rare and wonderful family business.
Kelly’s is a full-service butcher firmly rooted in the local community. They specialise in black and white puddings and sausages made to the same secret recipe for generations. The puddings (and the traditional Putóg) are sold countrywide.
Ever tried a banana sausage? How about a spicy chilli version, a lamb sausage or one subtly flavoured with herbs? Maybe the classic favourite breakfast sausage is the one for you. This is what a real butchers shop should be, a combination of the best traditional methods and artisan skills given a contemporary twist.
Kelly’s black and white puddings and sausages have raked in the honours at national and international competitions since the early 1990s including Great Taste Awards, Blas na hEireann, Food & Wine Magazine Awards, butchers awards and the Boudin Noir competition in Mortagne-au-Perche France.

Sean also now supplies his meat to the cafe next door, Kelly’s Kitchen, run by daughter Shauna. A great way to taste the meat and award-winning breakfast produce of a Master Butcher proud of his craft!

Kelly’s philosophy is very simple: “We make up to a standard not down to a price”. This passion for quality means that Kelly’s are among an elite five butchers in Mayo who have their own abattoir, ensuring a more sustainable and ethical process of producing their meats. Up to 70% of the livestock comes from their own farm, with the remainder is handpicked in the local marts and nearby farms.
