Overview

A number of years ago, West Cork was lucky enough to be hit by the powerhouse that is Ruth Healy. Her stylish Urru Culinary Store has risen from relatively quiet beginnings to being one of the most talked-about shops in the region. You won’t find anything here that has not been produced with love and care – from the exotic olives oils from single estates in Italy, Spain, France and Greece, to West Cork’s famous artisan produce, Irish pickles, jams and chutneys, and finest fresh bread and pastries, to name but a few. You’ll find cookbooks from classic Elizabeth David titles to modern-day Ra Read More

Courses & Tutors

Urru Culinary Store runs culinary and arts events and courses periodically throughout the year.

This is a small group, hands-on training course run over three evenings. It is scheduled based on demand (the minimum number required to run a course is three people). The course covers a practical introduction to working with a coffee machine, tills and service for café/food retail.

This course was originally designed for first-time job seekers and has proved popular with students looking for part-time jobs.

Other Facilities

Take a seat at the café’s handcrafted beech counter or large table at the back of the store to enjoy a bite to eat. After all that retail therapy you’ll need a good cup of coffee, which you will most certainly find here. Why not treat yourself to one of Urru’s famous sandwiches that have had rave reviews from some of Ireland’s top food writers?

Daily changing fresh organic soup made in Cork and the sandwich of the week are favourites among regulars.

Sustainability

Ruth is a Slow Food exponent and that philosophy follows through in absolutely everything she does at Urru Culinary Store. The shop is a proud ambassador for real Irish food and drink producers and is also part of the wider Bandon community and the regional and national food communities.
