Overview

From award-winning breakfasts to bountiful bunch, delicious lunches to scrumptious desserts, everything in Kelly’s Kitchen Cafe is made in house and produced using locally sourced ingredients. Shauna Kelly and her dedicated team work each and every day to produce the tastiest and satisfying food for locals and visitors to enjoy in the beautiful town of Newport on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Dining

Kelly’s Kitchen Cafe is a pretty daytime café with a prime spot on the main street of Newport in Mayo. Outside, a café table and chairs enable al fresco eating when the weather is good. Inside, the country-style atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and so too are the people who work here.

Shauna Kelly was born into a world of good food. Her father Sean is a renowned butcher in Newport and a long-established Good Food Ireland Provider and driving force behind the food scene in this beautiful region. Kelly’s Butchers sells only carefully sourced local meat, processed at the family’s own small abattoir behind the shop, which just coincidentally, happens to be right next door to Shauna’s own business – Kelly’s Kitchen Cafe. How handy is that for getting the best meat onto her menu? And that’s exactly what happens here. All the tasty homemade sausages, rashers, Kelly’s white pudding and Sean’s famous award-winning putóg – a traditional Irish black pudding – along with Mayo reared beef and lamb, come from her father’s shop. His Mayo reared beef and lamb from local farms are top quality meats of which he is rightly proud. His customers have been buying them for decades – and now they provide a total farm to fork experience at Kelly’s Kitchen Cafe.

Shauna heads up the team of staff front of house. Her mum is often to be found in the kitchen knocking up the breakfasts. And what breakfasts they are! Expect a fine plateful of Kelly’s Butchers’ home-cured bacon and homemade puddings and sausages, grilled to perfection. That’s right, a fry with no frying. Try the Full Irish or the Mini Irish – either one will set you up for the day.

For vegetarians, the veggie brekkie is equally as filling and delicious and you’ll get a plateful of Kelly’s Butchers vegetarian sausages, vegetarian pudding and a lot more.

If you’re in the mood for something lighter, try the free-range scrambled eggs or a hearty bowl of oatmeal porridge with homemade seasonal fruit compote.

The lunchtime menu is extensive, offering plenty of choice from light bites to hot meals. Kelly’s Meat Lover dish is a carnivore feast of lamb chops, sausages, dry-cured rashers and black and white pudding. It will definitely sate your appetite. The beef and Guinness casserole is just what you need after exploring the beautiful region. The mouthwatering slow-roasted prime beef, creamy mash and seasonal vegetables is Irish home cooking at its best. Fish lovers can tuck into a flavourful bowl seafood chowder, with seafood sourced from Achill Island. All these dishes are firm favourites, which remain on the menu at all times and provide a true taste of the area.

A selection of light bites, sandwiches, salads and quiche of the day are also available. Another bonus here is that because the meat comes from just next door, the menu is fairly flexible. So if there is something you really fancy, just ask Shauna and she’s happy to try to accommodate. Dietary requirements are also taken into account – again all you have to do is ask.

Those with a sweet tooth are in for a treat here too. The open counter at the rear of the caf̩ is laden with home-baked goodies Рscones and bread and scrumptious desserts. A specialist pastry chef here knows how to curb those sweet cravings.

To go with all the lovely food, you can enjoy fresh coffees, Irish tea and speciality teas, or choose from the range of soft drinks.

Kelly’s Kitchen Cafe is a real taste of the west of Ireland and a real taste of home.
