Sustainability

At Greenway Lane Art Studio Café, sustainability is more than just a buzzword – it’s a core value that guides every aspect of their business. From the locally sourced ingredients used in their delicious dishes to their commitment to reducing waste and conserving energy, Greenway Lane strives to minimise their environmental impact.

The café’s menu is a celebration of local produce, showcasing the bounty of County Mayo and supporting local farmers and producers. By choosing to source ingredients from nearby farms, Greenway Lane reduces their carbon footprint and ensures the freshest, highest-quality ingredients for their dishes.

In addition to their commitment to local sourcing, Greenway Lane also takes steps to reduce waste and conserve energy. They use eco-friendly cleaning products, compost food waste, and recycle whenever possible. The studio’s lighting is energy-efficient, and they encourage customers to refill their water bottles to minimise single-use plastic waste. Remarkably, the café is entirely solar-powered – even their coffee machine runs on solar energy, underscoring their dedication to renewable energy solutions.

Greenway Lane is also expanding its farming operations. While sheep farming remains a staple, they are now venturing into alpaca farming. Alpacas, originally native to South America, are known for their soft, luxurious wool, which is used to create high-quality textiles. These gentle animals are also low-impact grazers, making them an environmentally friendly addition to the farm. This new endeavour reflects Greenway Lane’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and embracing eco-conscious practices.

Fun day out with friends for an art experience.

The art class was simply wonderful. Maureen explained so much first about her art including how she finds and uses sea glass. Then told us what colours to choose and how to apply them. We all left with beautiful pictures. All successfully completed their picture and all were unique. After a delicious afternoon tea she did not hurry us out. But spent time with us telling us about her alpacas. I will never forget the experience and highly recommend it. You will forget about everything else going on in your life. It was a total break for a day and we all left very happy.
