Culture & Cooking Getaway – Wild Atlantic Way – Dingle & Ring of Kerry

A cooking and cultural adventure in the wilds of Kerry, taking in handmade icrecream, chocolates, fresh fish and the beautiful beaches of the region.

Our Cultural and Cooking Getaway along Kerry’s Wild Atlantic Way will take you right to the very tip of Ireland, out on the edge of the sea, where the waves and fresh sea air have transformed the food of the region. Watch as your dinner is pulled from the ocean, and brought to shore in the quaint town of Dingle. Listen to the wind gently whistling through the grass as cows and sheep graze, to create milk that is rich and unique in flavour. From fine-dining to breakfast in bed, this is a weekend to experience the culture and cooking of Kerry’s Coast.

Arrive at Dingle Peninsula, there is wild untouched scenery everywhere. Catch glimpses of the ocean, as you drive down country roads and stop to drink in the magnitude of it all. Gorman’s Clifftop Guest House awaits. This is a home from home, a cosy guesthouse, where you will be greeted as if you’re family and brought to your room to unwind. Head outside to get a breath of sea air before dinner. Your hosts will supply maps and tips, so you’ll be sure to get the best of Dingle’s sights and sounds. Return for the freshest fish that evening, peruse a menu that shines with the Wild Atlantic’s fishy friends. This is casual dining set against the backdrop of stunning views.

Breakfast will be a friendly affair, soak up the passionate atmosphere, as your hosts see to your every need, filling your plate with a delicious full Irish or a hearty bowl of porridge, look out the window as little fishing boats drift by on the sea. You won’t find a view like this anywhere else. Make your way into the town of Dingle for a day at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Dingle Cookery School awaits, here you will learn to make a traditional Irish dish. Be at one with the history and culture of this food heritage, feel local ingredients at your fingertips and transform them into a delicious meal.

Afterwards, escape into the outdoors for lunch with a rustic picnic full of artisan goodies from Jack’s Bakery. Stop for a friendly chat in the bakery and get some tips on the best place to bring your foodie haul, then settle down on a pretty beach, or picnic bench dotted along the coast. Drink in the view, and enjoy the wonderful taste of food in the great outdoors. If you’re feeling brave, why not head into the ocean for a refreshing swim, or jump the small waves at the water’s edge, build a sandcastle or walk the beach picking shells as you go. Whatever you do, be sure to breathe in the healing sea air, and consider what to have for dinner. It’s round two at Gorman’s Clifftop Restaurant, choose carefully as you bid Dingle farewell in the morning.

Drive along the Wild Atlantic Way to Caherciveen, here you will find QC’s Restaurant and Townhouse, your home for the next two days. This is a famed seafood haven, where hospitality is first on the menu. You’ll be given the keys to the house, and your room, so you can return whenever the notion takes you. Explore Kerry’s rugged coast over the next few days, drop into traditional pubs where the craic is mighty and the dancing is sometimes questionable. Get involved in a Ceilí or listen to the fluent sound of Irish being spoken by the natives of this Gaeltacht region.

Indulge in breakfast in bed each morning, before heading out for the day to take in Kerry’s views, sounds and tastes. Visit a tiny ice cream shop at Valentia Island, where creamiest ice cream is hand made from the milk of cows that graze happily nearby, later head to Lorge Chocolatier and see finest chocolate sculpted by a master. Each night you will dine in the exquisite QC’s where fresh fish and local food are cooked with the most elegant of touches. Be sure to try as much as possible. Delighting over sweetly delicious desserts, and marvelling over tender fish.

Bid farewell to Kerry, but keep the sights and sounds of the ocean with your forever, pack away your Gourmet Gift Souvenir from Good Food Ireland, and later unwrap it to discover again the taste of this wild and rugged landscape.
