GALWAY RACE WEEK

And they’re off! Galways famous seven day long Summer Races extravaganza is under starters orders! Organisers can’t guarantee the sun will be splitting the stones, but they do say the week of Monday 27th July to Sunday 2nd August will have ‘top racing, an electric atmosphere, and an infectious sense of fun!’. Well what else would you expect of this famous racecourse, set in the heart of Galway on Ireland’s west coast, , where the craic is always mighty!

Just outside Galway, in the village of Moycullen, gateway to the Connemara region, Enjoy…. from White Gables is a perfect little cafe for casual dining during Galways race week. Open from 10am each day for Breakfast, lunch, light snacks, coffee/tea and cake.   Whatever the weather does, a  brand new stunning awning covering the outdoor dining area, means you can eat outside rain or shine! After refreshment, you may fancy  a little retail therapy in the shop inside the cafe, where all manner of culinary paraphanalia, foodie gifts,  and ‘must have’ goodies are waiting to tempt you. We particularly love the printed tea towels which are far too good to dry dishes – we recommend framing them and putting them up on a kitchen wall! The shop is fully stocked each day with freshly baked goods and takeaway items, including the cafe’s home cooked ready meals to take homes.

Just down the road, White Gables Restaurant provides formal fine dining in an intimate dining room, where fresh Galway fish and shellfish and local lamb feature, and cooking skills are exquisite. Also in Moycullen, pub restaurant  dining is to be found at The Forge Bar , where the team here are nothing if not conscientious in their sourcing of the best local produce, presenting it with flair and imagination on the daily a la carte menus, plus lunchtime carvery and numerous daily specials. Here is the place for a relaxing pint and some inner soul food, while you browse the racecard and pick the winners!
