HEALTHY LIVING

Food allergies are very much in focus these days in the restaurant and food production industry.  Most restaurant menus are now gluten free friendly. In the retail sector, many people are choosing spelt breads and gluten free pastries over traditional baking. Some are buying because they need to for food allergy reasons  – but more people are making the change because it makes them feel good when they eat them – and they really like the taste. Foods of Athenry have focussed on making healthy breads and baked goods that don’t compromise on taste. Their gluten free range is setting the pace in healthy treats that step up to challenge any traditional options. This summer, our Producer of the Year for 2013 launched a gluten free breakfast to fill a gap in the market for a quality Irish produced breakfast that more than makes the grade in flavour terms. Gluten Free Nutty Crunch Granola is also Wheat and Sugar refined free. It tastes so good it just won the top award in the annual Irish food awards in Dingle – up against several other products in the category. Judges on the tasting panel were fully in agreement that this Granola is the best in Ireland! Puffed brown rice, oat flakes, whole nuts and fruit juice go into this medal honours breakfast. A Gluten Free Strawberry Vanilla Granola from Foods of Athenry also took third place in the awards. A double whammy of yet more success for the company. A big thumbs up for Gluten Free living!’ says Siobhan – owner and master baker at Foods of Athenry. Well done to Siobhan and husband Paul for their dedication to creating the best of both worlds – a healthy start to the day loaded with flavour and goodness.
