Overview

Greenwich is located on the corner of Caroline St and Maylor St directly behind Brown Thomas in Cork City centre. The inspiration for the name came straight out of Greenwich Village in Manhattan and this is reflected in the streetscape redevelopment undertaken by Cork City management. Dermot O’Sullivan has taken over the iconic Idaho Café from the previous owners. There has been a very successful transfer of goodwill and trade has continuity because quality has not wavered. Dermot has redecorated and has put his own touch and feel to the location, having recently shifted the business offering to a daytime Rest Read More

Dining

The menus at Greenwich are clever in their simplicity with a very deliberate sprinkle of heavyweight name dropping of Irish legend producers such as Arbutus Sourdough, Flahavan’s Porridge, Chicken Inn – English Market, Kay O’Connell and Cashel Blue Cheese.

Dermot was unwavering in his business’s ethos around the warmth of welcome on arrival at Greenwich which it seems will always be on the menu.

This location is working itself into the fabric of going into Cork City for a shopping trip or to meet a friend for coffee or lunch.

Greenwich is an emerald that shines the torch for Irish food and ingredients at a top-quality level. You’ll find here a menu that consists of delicious food made with expert care and warmth that puts local at its heart.

During our visit,  we had the pleasure of trying Dermot’s signature Fish Pie. The fish pie came out piping hot with a duvet of soft mash potato that had a golden crust. Sink your fork into the pie and savour a haul of salmon, smoked haddock and a smooth and well-seasoned creamy sauce with the potato topping. It’s all about the flavour and the comfort of delicious well-made food with absolute consistency.

Other menu items include a spicy Chicken Quesadilla or a Maple-Based Loin of Bacon open sambo that will make your day.

Breakfast also brings with it a batch of freshly baked warm scones along with bacon and sausage baps, scrambled eggs and more goodness.

The menu will change with the seasons but the quality and care will be just as impressive with the absolute respect to using local and seasonal Irish produce.

At Greenwich, the indoor is snug and cosy and during the spring, summer and autumn a vibrant hip and glossy outdoor street area is part of the offering.

The outside eating area is opened up in full after 11am each day and the glossy red barrels bring a real taste of funky cool summertime. Add in the wine license and you could be in NYC for sure sipping on a cool glass of Pinot Grigio.

Greenwich has been reimagined and is building on the previous owner’s goodwill and dedication to quality. One can imagine that Richard and Mairead Jacob should be extremely happy with the evolution of Idaho into Greenwich.

See you there for a warm welcome and delicious home-cooked food in Irish style and excellence!
