It is with great delight that we announce that longstanding Good Food Ireland® Approved member Ummera Smoked Products, Co. Cork has won the acclaimed Golden Fork for Ireland Award at this year’s Great Taste Awards. 

Great Taste is seen as one of the world’s leading and trusted food & drink awards with many producers across the globe vying for their accolodades. This year saw a record breaking 12,777 entries who were assessed over 14 weeks of remote judging and socially distanced judging sessions. This jaw dropping amount of entries makes Anthony Creswell’s owner of Ummera Smoked Products, achievement all the more amazing. When you taste Ummera’s Smoked Irish Organic Salmon along with the other products in the range, you will see cleary that this award is so justly deserved. 

In 1988 Anthony took over the family business learning the trade from his father a keen fisherman, who back in the 70’s started smoking salmon. Today the smoking methods remain unchanged but almost 50 years on, Anthony has an enviable reputation for producing some of the finest smoked Irish salmon that the country has to offer. Having developed a new purpose-built smoke house upstream on the River Argideen and achieved Organic Trust certification, Anthony also smokes other food products including, chicken, duck, beef and dry cured bacon. 

Ummera Smoked Products impressed the Great Taste panel with its organic salmon’s “lovely texture”, “great mouthfeel” and “a level of smoke that is measured to perfection.” As the praise rolled in for this product, one judge said, “this is as good a piece of smoked salmon as I’ve had in years.” 

Products that were awarded three Gold Stars by an esteemed judging panel of industry leaders, were re-judged and finally Ummera Smoked Products was awarded the Golden Fork Award for Ireland sponsored by Bord Bia in a recent virtual award ceremony. It was such a pleasure to see fellow Good Food Ireland® member Crossogue Preserves, Co. Tipperary also nominated for the award with their delicious Gooseberry Spread.
